WE NEED TWO  more EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBERS! July 2024

We'd love to have you join our team.  Below is a  description of the various positions included in our activities.

Executive Committee Member:

The  Executive Committee is responsible for the day-to-day administration  and oversight of the activities of the Committee on behalf of all member branches. The committee consists of three to five members and meets one hour a month.

Join us by filling out the Volunteer application at the bottom of this page, indicating "Executive Committee" and sending to PO Box or csiscoregon@gmail.com .

IS Church Representatives:

Representatives  are appointed by their member branch (Christian Science church or society in Oregon), and make regular reports at business  meetings to inform their members about Institutional Services Committee  work and outreach.  They also serve as the Committee's point person by  notifying their church when an inmate is released and wants to continue  his study of Christian Science.  This may include arranging for rides to  church, or the Reading Room and lectures through church members.  The  branch church representative works closely with the chaplain or  volunteer who was working with the inmate while incarcerated.

The member branch simply sends a letter or email to the IS Secretary noting the name and contact name of the representative and they will be invited to quarterly meetings etc.

No application needed, only an email from the Clerk of your Christian Science church.

Volunteer Chaplains and Assistant Chaplains:

Chaplains are class-taught (a 12-day  class instruction course in spiritual healing from an authorized  Christian Science teacher) students of Christian Science who have  demonstrated an ability to heal, and who can present its teachings  compassionately to those inquiring about Christian Science. They serve  as practitioners, conduct church services, meet on a one-to-one basis  with inmates and give prayerful treatment when it is requested.   Chaplains must be members of The Mother Church and a branch church or  society that is a member of this committee.

Assistant Chaplains  must be members of The Mother Church and a branch church or society  that is a member of this committee. Any other qualifications are left to  the discretion of the Executive Committee.  They may hand out literature  and/or assist the chaplains in church services or Sunday School  teaching.

Apply by filling out volunteer application at the bottom of this page and sending to PO Box or csiscoregon@gmail.com

Corresponding Chaplain:

Same as Chaplain, but writes letters. Does not go inside institution. Letters use our PO Box as a return address. Letters from adults-in-custody are sent to the PO Box, the secretary scans and emails to corresponding chaplain.

Same application as for volunteer below.

Angel Team member:

Member of the community willing to donate their time to helping someone reintegrate into the community. This could mean providing transportation, or a voice of encouragement, or a job, or teaching how to drive or balance a checkbook or write a resume or find housing or budget or any life skill.

No application needed at this time, just contact our Secretary at csiscoregon@gmail.com
